The metadrama is a drama inside the drama

• revenge plays

• the focus is all the thoughts of hamlet, hamlet's mind. (in fact the revenge is very delayed)

  • "to be or not to be?"
  • existentialist questions (about the meaning of life)

• Hamlet: character -> direction

  • he search for the truth and find difficult to distinguish
    • realty: is changable (there is not one truth like the religion)
    • appearence
  • it's a modern tragic hero ("religion is not the solution")
  • search for a solution inside his mind

• Claudius: actor -> spectator
